Deep Care
Deep Care concerns serious conditions in which activity is greatly restricted or impossible. Comfort, safety, dignity and high-quality care matter most, alongside the person's ability to participate in decisions as far as possible.
§ 01
Purpose of the mode
comfort and dignity when movement is severely limited·Limited movement does not mean little remains to do. Comfort, surroundings, communication and respect for the person require sustained attention.
·Deep Care is about the quality of each day, not attempts to force improvement regardless of the person's condition.
·A person's dignity does not diminish with their physical capabilities.
§ 02
In practice
application·Design the practical aspects of care: hygiene, body positioning, surroundings, safety and assistive equipment.
·Provide means of communication so a person can express wishes, refuse and be heard.
·Arrange the emotional and sensory environment: light, sound, rhythm, the presence of loved ones and time alone.
§ 03
Indicators
what shows it is working·Reducing avoidable suffering, including pressure sores, pain, helplessness and indignity during basic care.
·Ways for the person to remain themselves, rather than being reduced to a 'patient'.
·Caregivers remain supported and the care system avoids catastrophic breakdown.
§ 04
Boundaries
what the mode must not replace·Deep Care should not pretend to be active rehabilitation when rehabilitation has become unrealistic or harmful.
·Deep Care must not become background maintenance in which the person's wishes cease to matter.
