Build
Build is the mode of establishing a foundation: sleep, movement, recovery, the working environment and an understanding of one's own condition. If the foundation is unstable, attempts to optimise or sustain high workloads soon lead to fatigue and setbacks.
§ 01
Purpose of the mode
establishing a stable foundation·The body and brain are the main working infrastructure, not a backdrop. They need to be developed and maintained rather than used only after everything else.
·Build establishes the basic systems: sleep, movement, nutrition, recovery, the environment, relationships with medical professionals and information about one's condition.
·Stability takes priority over peak performance. The system must withstand real life, not just ideal conditions.
§ 02
In practice
application·Establish workable ranges for sleep, exertion, recovery and nutrition. These are flexible bounds, not rigid standards.
·Gather basic information about yourself: test results, key biomarkers, musculoskeletal condition and psychological and emotional well-being.
·Arrange the environment: workspace, tools, external memory, people around you, and a basic level of quiet and order.
§ 03
Indicators
what shows it is working·Consistent sleep and recovery over time, not only during favourable periods.
·The ability to sustain workloads without repeatedly damaging physical or mental health.
·Enough information to understand what is happening, rather than relying only on subjective impressions.
§ 04
Boundaries
what the mode must not replace·Build cannot be established through constant Perform-level exertion. That would mean laying foundations over existing cracks.
·Build should not be replaced by enthusiasm for supplements, gadgets or 'optimisations' without the underlying infrastructure.
